MCYS FOUNDATION FUND AND MEMBER FEES 20/21

Dear valued MCYS Member,

On behalf of the General Committee, we hope you are all keeping safe and well during this ever unfolding COVID-19 situation.

The restrictions imposed by our State and National Governments have put competition, cruising and our social functions on hold. These uncertain times have had a significant impact on the operations of our club.

Our goal is to provide members with a variety of activities and events including racing and cruising with both power and sail as well as social events.

Whilst we are unable to run any of our usual events, we’ve tried where we can to facilitate different ways of connecting with our members via initiatives such as our Zoom-based social nights and virtual racing. We are continuing to work on ways to fulfil our membership promises to you and enable you to receive value from your ongoing membership and generous support.

In light of these unprecedented times, we recognise that we haven’t been able to provide the level of benefit to our members that we had set out and hoped to do. Given this, we’ve put in place a number of initiatives to help us get through this together.

 1. DEFERRAL of fees due and DISCOUNT of membership fees

    • Member fee invoices due date will be deferred until end December 2020; and
    • Member fees for the 2020/2021 year will not be increased over 2019/2020 fees;
    • A discount of 50% will be applied to renewing and new members for the 2020/2021 season

In any normal year, we would be starting to send out membership renewal requests in the coming weeks for payment at end of July. We recognise that for many of our members the COVID-19 crisis has seen them impacted financially, and we don’t want to add to this burden.

We have voted not to increase fees, and to discount them by one-half for the 2020/2021 year.

Membership Fee and Renewal for 2020/2021 will not be sent until the first week of October 2020 and will be due 31 December 2020.

If any member would prefer to enter into a payment plan in respect of fees, this may be done by contacting our treasurer by clicking this link: Treasurer.

2. MCYS Foundation Fund – TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS

We have partnered with the Australian Sports Foundation, which was set up by the Federal Government to provide a tax deductable fundraising platform for individuals and organisations to contribute to sporting organisations. This fund has been created to assist MCYS to fund on and off water activities as well as future facility or capital projects.

Donations will help us continue with operations during this crisis and will play a vital part in building our future, well beyond COVID-19. We’ve included details of this new initiative in the upcoming newsletter.

So, for members who are in a position to support the club financially, we’d like to encourage you to do that by making a donation to our newly established MCYS Foundation Fund.

With discounted membership fees for the upcoming season, continuing or new members may wish to donate a similar amount that would otherwise have been paidor indeed make a larger donation to the MCYS Foundation Fund.

TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donations to the MCYS Foundation Fund can be made online YES I WANT TO MAKE A TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION!

If you have any questions about donating to the MCYS Foundation, please click here to email our  Treasurer

Your membership will remain active and valid for the 2020-2021 season without further payment being due until end December 2020, and then to renew, fees will be 50% of the current membership fees.

As restrictions are lifted and we are once again able to run events, both on and off water, and to meet together we will reintroduce the activities we’ve all been missing and start building on the ideas and suggestions from the forum to further develop MCYS. We’ll keep you informed as we have more information!

This is unchartered territory for all of us and your support during this time will be testimony to your commitment to the Martha Cove Yacht Squadron community.

We are all looking forward to getting through this together and entering the next and exciting chapter of Martha Cove Yacht Squadron.

Through adversity comes opportunity – and we as the General Committee intend to take every opportunity to come out of the current situation with a stronger and better squadron, fulfilling our member’s needs.

Stay Safe!
