MCYS Bay Trail Walkers – a story of perseverance and love of good coffee – and the next great adventure – “The Wild Side”
Way back in March 2021 we had the ambitious goal of walking the Mornington Peninsula Bay Trail – should take us a few months we thought naively. This is that innocent group on that blustery, but warmish, Autumn day, gathered at the Safety Beach pier with the promise of good coffee and friendship spurring us on. Whilst the original plan involved a monthly walk, coffee and brunch, as we all know now, 2021 didn’t turn out quite how we planned …
Rather than a few months, our journey took us 18 months. Many months were missed through lockdowns and there were even times were we walked in masks. But finally in July 2022, we made it ito the tip of the Peninsula! We stood overlooking the rip and watched the pilot boats and ships navigate their way through the heads.
So what’s next? The great thing about living on a Peninsula is there are two sides! So, join us as we explore the “Wild Side” and embark on “The Coastal Walk”. This 30kms of coastline takes in the southern side of the Mornington Peninsula with spectacular scenery stretching from Point Nepean National Park to Cape Schanck.
Join us on Saturday 30th July at 10am for the 1st section of this walk on the wild side of the Peninsula, starts where the Bay Trail walk finished at Point Nepean, and sees us heading from the Point Nepean car park to London Bridge and return (6km return). In the great tradition of MCYS Walkers, we’ll then head to Portsea for a coffee and brunch. We’re meeting at 10am in the 1st carpark at Point Nepean, beside the currently unused Information Centre.
RSVP to social@mcys.com.au to let us know you’re coming or if you have any questions.
Looking forward to you joining us!
